We are painting the nursery!
Here are some shots so far.
Obviously, those are super early in the process, and by the time you read this, there may be another set uploaded, since we've done more work on it. You can check for more painting pics... Link here
Its a fun challenge, and we're enjoying the work. We're trying to minimize Krissi's paint huffing, for obvious reasons.

Oh, Santa Claus
Let me take a moment to try to clarify my previous post regarding Santa Claus. After this, I'm going to move on, and not look back. These posts will be dead to me.
I'm not opposed to Santa Claus. I'm not opposed to Christmas. I'm not opposed to kids getting excited about Santa Claus. I'm not opposed to presents on Christmas.
I'm wrestling with the idea of saying to my kid "Yeah, see, every christmas, santa brings presents to all the boys and girls on the earth! So what do you want from santa this year?" etc.
Just between you and I, I think that I'm making a mountain out of a molehill. I figure around the age of three, a kid will be exposed to Santa anyway, and then it'll be all red suits and Ho Ho Ho from there.
Part of this is related to my own personal hangups. I see Santa as part of our culture of Ultra Consumerism, which makes my skin crawl a little.
I'm totally down with imagination, c'mon- I'm a Dungeons & Dragons nerd. I'm totally into make-believe dragons and castles and stuff. So why am I cool with unicorns and fairies, but not a guy in a red suit who gives out presents? I dunno. Maybe I'm rebelling against something.
Anyway, I'm moving on now. We'll just have to see how it works out. I'll let you know in a few years. :)

Painting, Murals, Santa Claus
This past weekend I got the base coat on the walls for the nursery. We did it in a very light and bright green. Our plan is to do an animal jungle mural on the walls. Before we painted, I penciled trees and some animals on the walls, using the pattern that we've picked out for some bed stuff. It was meant as a proof-of-concept, and it worked. So now that its painted, sometime this week I'll get in there and use some painters tape to scope out where I'll put stuff, then I'll do some penciling, then some painting. Hopefully it will work out.
Our latest cart-before-the-horse episode is from today. Krissi and I often approach things from very different perspectives. I am often coldly logical, while she is often emotional and touchy/feely. So we have been chatting about Santa Claus. I say chatting - what I mean is that I told Krissi, "So I don't think that we should affirm Santa Claus to our kid." And she responded "I think that every kid deserves to have the joy of Santa Claus." Its still pretty hotly contested.
