Last year, Piper was too little to really get into Christmas, though she thought that the tree was cool, and that opening presents was fun.
This year has been rather different. While I imagine that in coming years, the level of excitement will approach 11, she has been very taken with the ornaments on the tree, turning the lights on and off, and Frosty the Snowman. She loves singing the song, reading a book of it, and watching the animated movie from thirtyhowevermanyyearsago.
We put together a wish list of things for her, a few toys that we thought would be good, a light switch thingy so she can turn her light on and off, and a few other things. But people have asked "What can we get for Piper", and in some cases, I've had to shrug. There's not much that she is in need of. I suppose this means that we are fortunate enough to be able to get what she needs.
We're also trying to get into the idea of giving and charity. We took her to the store recently and picked up a pack of matchbox cars which will be going to Toys for Tots. They're sitting on the kitchen table, and she asks about them from time to time, and we remind her that they're for another little boy or girl who does not have toys to play with. She hasn't really gotten her brain wrapped around the idea yet, I think, but its important to me to start working on it early.
We're headed out this weekend to do Santa photos.
